Casa dos Ventos, a reference in the renewables market and a protagonist in Brazil's energy transition, and Indovinya, a division of the Indorama Ventures group, a leader in surfactants and specialty chemicals, have signed a 15-year renewable energy supply contract.
Electricity will be supplied by Casa dos Ventos through the Babilônia Sul Wind Complex, which has a total installed capacity of 360 MW and 80 wind turbines. The project, located in the municipalities of Morro do Chapéu and Várzea Nova, in Bahia, is capable of avoiding the emission of approximately 580 thousand tons of CO2 per year.
"The contract will play an important role in the decarbonization of the Brazilian chemical industry and, in addition to environmental benefits, the long-term partnership also provides cost predictability and will help Indovinya advance its sustainability goals," explains Lucas Araripe, executive director of Casa dos Ventos.
Indovinya's partnership with Casa dos Ventos is a milestone towards the decarbonization of operations and reaffirms the company's commitment to sustainability. The company will have the equivalent of approximately 50% of its electricity in South America coming from renewable sources.
It is worth noting that in addition to the estimated initial reductions, the implementation of this project is the first step towards enabling the replacement of fossil fuels used in steam generation at Indovinya's industrial units, which will enhance the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
