The Roca Group has just announced a renewable energy purchase agreement (PPA) with Casa dos Ventos, a leading player in the energy transformation in Brazil. The 10-year contract will allow the company to supply 100% of its electricity consumption in the country with renewable energy, reinforcing its progress in its global decarbonization strategy.
Over the contract period, the initiative will prevent the emission of more than 43,000 tons of CO₂, considering the average emission factor of the Brazilian electricity system.
“Partnerships like this reinforce the role of renewable energy as a driver of competitiveness for Brazilian industry. By structuring long-term solutions, we can combine cost predictability with decarbonization, supporting companies in their sustainability and growth strategies,” says Rene Abrantes, Commercial Director of Casa dos Ventos.
The agreement contributes to the Roca Group's progress towards its global decarbonization goal, validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), of reducing its scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030, based on 2021 levels. The associated renewable energy certificates (I-RECs) will be retired and reported annually and will be linked to wind or solar plants with less than 15 years of operation.
In this context, the Roca Group relied on the support of SE Advisory Services, the global consulting division of Schneider Electric, through strategic advisory services in PPAs. According to the company, this support included comparative analysis of alternatives, risk assessment, and specialized monitoring during structuring and negotiation, contributing to the construction of a robust agreement aligned with the group's decarbonization objectives.
The energy transition in Brazil advances when we combine climate ambition with solid, long-term contractual models.
“In Brazil, PPAs and renewable energy self-generation projects have already become established as mature strategies for companies to advance in a structured way towards their climate commitments,” says Mathieu Piccin, LATAM Director of Sustainability Business at SE Advisory Services. “It is a source of pride to support this journey with rigorous technical analysis and a strategic vision of decarbonization for the region.”
Based on a consolidated industrial presence in Brazil, one of its strategic markets, the Roca Group produces sanitary porcelain, faucets, and other bathroom products destined for both the local market and export to other Latin American countries. In Brazil, the company operates eight factories, located in the states of Ceará (Caucaia), Pernambuco (Vitória de Santo Antão and Recife), Espírito Santo (Serra), Minas Gerais (Santa Luzia), and São Paulo (Jundiaí). The unit in Vitória de Santo Antão and one of the plants in Jundiaí have already achieved net-zero emissions in the production process.
