Ensuring that the products of South America's largest battery manufacturer were produced with 100% renewable energy
Moura Group, a battery manufacturer based in Pernambuco, had the adoption of sustainable principles as one of the pillars of its organizational culture — present in policies ranging from proper solid waste disposal to water reuse and energy efficiency.
The company sought to take a significant step in reducing the carbon emissions of its operations, ensuring that its products were manufactured with renewable energy — which required a contract on a scale compatible with the consumption of a large industrial operation.
Equity participation in the Rio do Vento Wind Complex, covering 100% of the Group's consumption since 2022
Casa dos Ventos, one of the pioneers and largest investors in wind projects in Brazil, partnered with Moura Group, the largest battery manufacturer in South America, ensuring 100% of the organization's electricity consumption with wind energy, starting in 2022, through the Rio do Vento Wind Complex (504 MW) in Rio Grande do Norte.
As in other contracts of the same model, Casa dos Ventos offered Moura Group the opportunity to become a partner in the Park and, consequently, a self-producer of clean energy, participating both as an energy consumer and as a shareholder in the venture.
We developed a customized model that meets different needs, from electro-intensive companies like Vale, to companies with lower consumption, such as Tivit, Vulcabras Azaleia, and now Moura Group.
Says Lucas Araripe, executive director of Casa dos Ventos.
The Rio do Vento complex is located in one of Brazil's best wind regions, with 120 Vestas V150-4.2 MW turbines, in the municipalities of Caiçara do Rio do Vento, Riachuelo, Ruy Barbosa, and Bento Fernandes. Commercial operation began in the second half of 2022.
At Grupo Moura, one of the pillars of our organizational culture is the transversal adoption of sustainable principles and respect for the Environment [...] With the partnership with Casa dos Ventos in this venture, our products will be manufactured and will leave using stored renewable energy, which will be an important step in the pursuit of reducing carbon emissions in our operations.
Adds Arnolfo Menezes, Director of Metals and Sustainability at Grupo Moura.
100% wind energy matrix since 2022, with Grupo Moura as a self-producing partner of Rio do Vento
- 100% of Grupo Moura's energy matrix supplied by wind power, starting in 2022;
- Another company incorporated into Rio do Vento's "energy condominium" model, alongside Tivit, Vulcabras Azaleia, and others;
- Access to competitive tariffs, made possible by the economy of scale of the project and the quality of the region's wind resource.
