Supply seven plants in five states with clean energy and advance Strive 35 program goals
ADM, one of the largest agribusiness companies in the world and present in Brazil for over 20 years, had a global commitment to reduce carbon emissions, but until then, had never invested in wind energy to supply its operations in the country.
The company needed to supply seven plants spread across different regions of Brazil: Campo Grande (MS), Rondonópolis (MT), Santos (SP), Joaçaba (SC), Porto Franco (MA), Três Corações and Uberlândia (both in MG) with clean energy, in order to advance its environmental goals of the internal Strive 35 program: a 25% reduction in absolute GHG emissions, 15% in energy consumption intensity, 10% in water usage intensity, and a 90% landfill diversion rate, all by 2035.
15-year Self-Production Agreement (APE) with energy from the Babilônia Sul Wind Complex, in Morro do Chapéu and Várzea Nova, Bahia
Casa dos Ventos, owner of the largest portfolio of wind and solar generation projects in the country, structured a Self-Production Agreement (APE) with ADM, one of the company's first investments in wind energy in Brazil.
This is an important step for us to advance in clean energy consumption with self-generation projects and reinforces sustainability in a prominent position in the company's business strategy.
Says Domingo Lastra, ADM President for Latin America.
The contract now includes energy generated at the Babilônia Sul Wind Complex, located in Morro do Chapéu and Várzea Nova, Bahia, with an initial duration of 15 years.
Through partnerships like this, Casa dos Ventos has included approximately 1.5 GW of renewable energy into the Brazilian matrix — and remains prepared to support companies in their energy transition as a strategic partner.
States Lucas Araripe, Executive Director of Casa dos Ventos.
19 thousand tons of CO₂ avoided per year and US$ 18 million in savings over 15 years
- 19 thousand metric tons of CO2/year avoided;
- 7 plants supplied with wind energy in 5 states (MS, MT, SP, SC, MA, MG);
- One of ADM's first steps towards dedicated renewable energy in Brazil, complementing other existing initiatives within the company.
We are aware of our carbon footprint in our operations and supply chain. We have a sustainability policy that establishes a set of environmental goals, which is reviewed year by year, and we unite all efforts to meet them.
Reiterates Diego Di Martino, ADM Latam Sustainability Leader.
